Gunma Museum of Art, Tatebayashi
Finished
Japan from the Taisho period to the early Showa period was amidst marked movements in history such as the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, recovery from the disaster, the Great Depression, and World War II. Ever since its opening, Itabashi Art Museum has consistently been collecting works dating from this period and has formed an unparalleled collection. The works presented here reflect the society as it changed by the moment and through them, this exhibition reads deeply into the interactive relation between art and the society and the situation in which the artists were placed.
