Animals Depicted in Paintings

Bambinart Gallery
Finished

Artists

Ryu Kawada, Kyohei Naito, Yui Hayashi, Mamoru Hirata
From the wall paintings of Lascaux and Altamira to modern paintings, even as the role of painting has changed over time, animals continue to be depicted. In the past, most depictions in art of animals were as deities and as religious and mythological symbols. As a noble animal that disliked depravity and uncleanliness, the ermine depicted in Da Vinci’s “Lady with an Ermine” was a symbol moderation. Goya’s “The Dog” depicted a dog symbolizing the painter’s own loneliness and powerlessness. In Japan, the flowers and birds motif, with its many hidden meanings and symbolism, has appeared in many depictions of animals. This exhibition showcases depictions of animals by modern artists from many different angles and in many different mediums.
