Tamiko Nishimura
In this exhibition, the gallery presents 15 vintage silver gelatin prints produced in 1979 by Nishimura. The prints were selected from approximately 1,500 images taken from 1968 (around the time when Nishimura started photography) to the 1980s. These works can be considered as an important representation of Nishimura’s journey in life. Her poetic and spiritual photographs from “My Journey (Ryojin)” were not only taken from her trips but also from her daily life, sometimes around the neighborhood she lived in, and of her daughter. To Nishimura, journeys are always followed by snapshots; taking snapshots whether she is traveling or she is in Tokyo as if she is constantly traveling is a stance that has never changed for her in the past several decades. A limited-edition photography book until the same title will be published by the gallery to accompany the exhibition.
