In 2018 Fujisawa City Art Space will begin a series of exhibitions as part of a cultural exchange between Fujisawa and each of its sister/friendship cities. Artists from the sister/friendship cities and from the Shonan area will exhibit the artwork they created at Fujisawa City Art Space. The exhibition “Scholar” will showcase work by Gabriel Delponte from Miami Beach (2018 will mark 60 years of sister city-hood with Fujisawa) and Sayaka Osaki, Rentaro Kawamoto, Koji Fukunaga, and Mika Mizuno from the Shonan area. Delponte, inspired by haiku poet Basho’s account of his travels, created “Bridge Me Japan” a project in which Delponte interviewed the people he met while traveling throughout Japan by bicycle over a period of two years and nine months starting in 2014. For this exhibition, he will exhibit in multiple media including videography, photography, and installation from material produced from the project.
