Masao Tsuruoka
Masao Tsuruoka (1907-1979) was a painter from Takasaki City, Gunma Prefecture who continued to depict people and their hardships throughout his career. This included his friend Aimitsu, who experienced the war, and the death of fellow painter Shunsuke Matsumoto. Celebrating the 110th anniversary of his birth, the exhibition presents 98 works, selected from the more than 300 works held in the Takasaki Museum of Art collection as well as the collections of other museums in the prefecture, under one roof. It features 34 oil paintings, 17 pastel works, 38 drawings, and 9 three-dimensional works. The exhibition will also touch on the practice of his contemporaries as well as Yoshi Kinouchi, who worked on Tsuruoka’s sculptural pieces, allowing visitors to become familiar which the artist’s work inside and out.
