The 1_WALL Graphics Exhibition aims to discover the next generation of young graphic designers. A panel of judges chooses six finalists based on their portfolios, and each finalist is given a single wall on which to display their work at the exhibition. This year’s final judging session open to visitors will take place on Tuesday, February 27. After presentations by the finalists, the judges will hold a debate and a Grand Prix winner will be named. This winner will be given a solo exhibition in a year’s time and a prize of 200,000 yen.
The six finalists for the 18th 1_WALL Graphics Exhibition are: Manami Kawamura, whose tracings depict “what she’s looking at now,” Shimizu, whose illustrations create original worlds from the toys of the 1960s and 1970s, Kobushi Tanaka, whose picture books feature a donkey as their protagonist, Naoya Hirata, who assembles imaginary “sculptures” from images taken from the internet, Thought Fukunishi, who combines his own poetry and graphics, and Monyochita Pomichi, whose works feature colorful girl characters.
