This exhibition is part of an original collaboration with Sawako Ura, a textile designer based in Finland whose concept of design is based on the aesthetics of nature and sceneries of people’s memories. Gaining a Master of Arts from Aalto University in 2011, she collaborated with Marimekko for her thesis and designs for the Marimekko 2012 spring collection. Since graduating, Ura has been working with Marimekko, Samuji and kokka as a freelance designer.
The first part of this collaboration with Mina-to will present a variety of tote bags and pouches. The inspiration for these designs is drawn from the sprouting of plants in spring. To mark the release of these goods, this solo exhibition - Ura’s first in Tokyo for three years - introduces original design drawings and textiles that have not previously been show publicly in Japan.
