Artists

Tatsuo Miyajima
“Counter Void” is a massive 5-meter high by 50-meter long public artwork on the theme of “life and death” by contemporary artist Tatsuo Miyajima. Constructed primarily of neon lights, it is permanently installed on the curved wall of the TV Asahi building in Roppongi. Two days after the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami, Miyajima and the owner TV Asahi agreed to turn off the work indefinitely as a gesture to share their condolences with those affected by the disaster. “Relight Days,” one of the few exceptions when the artwork can be seen re-lit, is an event organized to coincide with the anniversary of the disaster that begins at 14:46 on March 11.
