Yae Asano Exhibition

This event has ended.
The paintings of Yae Asano (b. 1914–1996) have been praised for their “scratching” technique, but this is not as simple as it may sound. It is the result of original experimentations with carving into the canvas and filling these tears with paint. In addition to oil paintings, Asano also produced many etchings and works on paper. His abstract works are said to express a uniquely Japanese aesthetic in the lyricism of their shapes and lines combining the old and the new. This exhibition presents a selection of his “scratching” paintings as well as other important works from the Yae Asano Memorial Collection.
