The Inten is an exhibition of Nihonga Japanese-style painting held by the Japan Art Institute, which was founded by major Meiji-era artists including Tenshin Okukura, Taikan Yokoyama, Kanzan Shimomura, and Shunso Hishida. Each September the exhibition debuts in Tokyo before travelling across Japan displaying works that demonstrate the current state of contemporary Nihonga painting. The 102nd Inten will be held this autumn. This exhibition features features 35 works by three artists nominated for the Inten by the Sogo Museum of Art exhibition in October 2017, plus other paintings by artists with ties to Kanagawa Prefecture. A total of 86 works are on display.
