Taro Okamoto
Amongst Taro Okamoto’s diverse array of projects and activities are over 140 works in 70 different public spaces such as parks and schools throughout the country. Throughout his life, Okamoto continuously created works in public spaces that were accessible to anyone. He believed in art, not for art’s sake but art that connects to society as a part of daily life. His artistic philosophy was that art had the power to awaken people’s fundamental joy and passions. In commemoration of the renewal of Expo ’70’s Tower of the Sun, this exhibition will showcase the public works Okamoto created throughout his lifetime. On display will be his early works made of mosaic tiles and models, sketches, photos, etc. of projects including the Tower of the Sun and The Myth of Tomorrow displayed at Shibuya Station, Tokyo.
