Miriam Cahn “Photographs”

Wako Works of Art
Finished

Artists

Miriam Cahn
While in her previous two solo exhibitions Swiss artist Miriam Cahn primarily presented oil paintings, here she will focus on photographs that attest to the attraction of her photographic approach. A number of these works are images she has shot of her own drawings made en plein air, and others depict the stunning nature that surrounds her studio in Bregaglia. This introduction to the interdisciplinary world of Cahn, who has continued to produce large scale drawing works since the start of her career as well as oil paintings that address the plight of refugees, centers on photographs shot on analogue film in the 1980s and 32 of her latest digital photographic works.
Influenced strongly by the new feminism and antinuclear movements of the 1970s, Cahn first attracted attention for her outdoor graffiti works that she painted on the ring road circling the outskirts of Basel. She has since continued to work with a wide variety of media, drawing, performance and watercolor painting included.
Cahn will participate in the 21st Sydney Biennale, which starts on March 16, for the second time - the first being in 1989 - and in 2019 will hold an extensive solo exhibition at Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid, a museum famous for housing Picasso’s “Guernica.”
