Artists

Baron Yoshimoto
The manga artist Baron Yoshimoto debuted in 1959 and rode the “gekiga” dramatic manga wave of the ‘60s and ‘70s. His well-known works include the series “Jukyoden” about the scintillating adventures of a judo instructor, which ran for ten years in the manga weekly Shukan Manga Action. At the height of his popularity, though, the artist suddenly stopped his serializations and moved to America. After returning to Japan he dropped the title “Baron” and began working as a painter. This exhibition looks back on his six decades of creative activity.
