Nudes are an important theme in Western art. Numerous artists from Renoir, Degas, Matisse, and Rodin to Picasso, Bacon, and Hockney took up the challenge of painting nudes. They have been expressed in historical paintings, sculptures, photographs, and prints and in settings including the stage, bathhouses, bedrooms, and temples. This exhibition will take us through the Tate Modern’s collection on a 200-year journey of the nude. The exhibition will feature for the first time in Japan Rodin’s sculpture ’The Kiss’.
