The Yokohama-born writer Bunroku Shishi (1893–1969) was known for the esprit and humor of works like “Etsu-chan,” “School of Freedom,” and Tenya Wanya.” His novels continue to find new fans today with their retro-yet-modern style. Shishi also served as director of the Bungakuza theatrical company. Marking the 50th anniversary of his death, this exhibition examines his life as a novelist and a theater person of the Show era.
