Hodaka Yoshida: See the World in a Wall

Mitaka City Gallery of Art
Finished

Artists

Hodaka Yoshida
Artist Hodaka Yoshida (1926–1995) visited more than 45 countries. Instead of beloved famous sites, in his works he depicted anonymous walls, fences, signs, and houses. His work changed significantly over time but his subject matter remained the same. A collection of photographs from his travels was an indispensible part of his work. His family of fellow artists was also a significant influence. He had an atelier in Mitaka, where he created his “My Collection” series. This exhibition focuses Yoshida’s oil paintings and early prints, particularly works in which wall motifs can be seen. His work remains fresh and vibrant even 25 years after his death.
