This event has ended.

Exhibiting new sculptures and video. While conducting research in the Tokyo suburbs, Koichi Mitsuoka discovered a small village on the banks of a river, the expansion of which had resulted in the flooding and depopulation of village. Mitsuoka will turn part of this village into an art center. While there are many projects around the world repurposing out-of-use buildings as art centers and museums, the focus of this project is individual discoveries of spaces to be used at one’s own discretion. Mitsuoka, who studied art and architecture, has incorporated elements of play into artworks based on community interventions and dialogues. Here you can see “Fixing and Returning a Homeless Man’s Broken Cart That Was About to Be Taken by the Police” (2013), a work indicative of the project’s direction.
