Since opening in 1994, Museum Haus Kasuya has introduced Japanese and international contemporary art in its special and permanent exhibitions. Now in its 25th year, the museum is planning commemorative exhibitions grounded in its accomplishments while venturing into new territory and taking bolder leaps into the future. With these goals in mind, this year it is holding exhibitions that spotlight artists driving the future of Japanese contemporary art.
Two participants in this exhibition, Kazuna Taguchi and Chihiro Mori, have been featured in previous exhibitions curated by Tokyo University of the Arts professor O Jun (the “Attempt” shows of 2007 and 2011). Taguchi and Mori are joined this time by the Berlin-based photographer Yuki Kimura. All three artists built up their careers in their twenties, earning them acclaim. This exhibition – the first to bring them all together – offers new discoveries for contemporary art fans through the experience of each artist’s uniqueness. Befitting the first year of the Reiwa era, this show looks back on all three artists’ works while offering glimpses of what may be to come.
