The work of painter Hanijiro Sakamoto (1882-1969) featured cows during his studies in Europe, horses after his return to Japan, still lifes in the postwar era, and the moon during his late years. His devotion to these ordinary subjects imbue them with an austere lyricism. This exhibition marking the 50th anniversary of his death presents around 140 of his works including oil paintings, watercolors, and ink paintings.
