Chiba City Museum of Art
Finished
The Allen Memorial Art Museum at Oberlin College in Ohio has over 1500 ukiyo-e prints gifted to it by alumnus Mary Ainsworth. Ainsworth’s collection began in 1906 when she visited Japan and contains both early and better-known work by artists such as Torii Kiyonaga (1752-1815, Kitagawa Utamaro (c. 1753-1806), Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849), and Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858). This exhibition selects 200 pieces of the best work, bringing them back to Japan for the first time.
