Chie Matsui
Chie Matsui, a graduate of Kyoto City University of Arts, began exhibiting large scale installation works since the mid 1980s. Her works have been widely presented in international exhibitions including “project 57” at MoMA, New York and the 44th Biennale di Venezia and the Yokohama Triennale. In addition, she has worked on her video works, with emphasis on her signature video series “HEIDI” since 2000. Drawing and paintings are also important mediums for Matsui along with her installation and video works. She calls her installation and video works in the later 90s, “a vessel of allegories”, which, in other words, is an artwork containing allegories and tales. She tries to catch the sensation in the moment an allegory is born. Matsui’s new installation “Shorenmaru, Nishihe” exhibited at Dogo Onsen Art 2018, will be reconstructed at gallery space and display some additional drawings and oil paintings.
