Artists

Aiko Tezuka
Aiko Tezuka focuses on textiles while also pursuing painterly expression. She deconstructs and reconstructs fabrics in dynamic works that have won her international acclaim and museum exhibitions. Her work blends the aesthetics of Japan and the West, art and craft, the modern and the contemporary, and the past and the present. Here she presents new works influenced by the Meiji period, including pieces with Satsuma buttons from the end of the samurai era and a Western dress referencing Empress Haruko, reported to be the first empress to officially wear Western clothes. The works demonstrate the dramatic condensation of history in textiles.
