Sophie Calle’s ‘Parce que’ series of embroidered text and photography on cloth makes its debut in Japan with this exhibition of nine new works. The text explains the “why” (parce que) of Calle’s choice for each image. For instance, “Sans enfants, sein” shows Calle breastfeeding a fictional child of hers. The work was made in response to online descriptions of her as “An Artist Without Children.”
