Kiyoshi Niiyama
In his late years, the Ehime Prefecture-born photographer Kiyoshi Niiyama (1911–1969) was invited by Otto Steinert to participate in the German exhibition “subjektive fotografie.” Subjective photography stood in contrast to the then-popular trend of Realism, focusing instead on the photographer’s personal perceptions. Although Niiyama was not well enough to take part in the show, his work became known globally thanks to this recognition. This exhibition features vintage images hand-printed by the artist himself from Niiyama’s significant surviving body of work.
