Shohei Yamamoto “Re: Reiterate”

Institut français du Japon - Tokyo

poster for Shohei Yamamoto “Re: Reiterate”

Ends tomorrow

Shohei Yamamoto received the 2019 Art Award Tokyo Marunouchi Japan French Embassy Prize. Based on a relatively simple process, his works reproduce motifs, silhouettes, symbols, and characters from art history on backgrounds in color or monochrome gradations. Through his extremely well-balanced approach, themes (such as the Renaissance or Greek sculpture), processes (such as pop art), and effects (such as abstract painting) intersect, creating multilayered versions of art history. Through his superb skills, Yamamoto brings together multiple artistic references within original compositions, all in quiet dialogue with each other.
