Collection Exhibition: Animals in Crafts

Sakura City Museum of Art
Finished
From cats and rabbits to turtles and even dragons, Japanese crafts have long featured a wide range of creatures. What could the creators of these objects have been thinking about when they made them? This exhibition introduces crafts with animal motifs dating to the Meiji through Heisei eras from the Sakura City Museum of Art collection and considers the meanings behind them. Artworks with animals by illustrator Soji Yamakawa are also featured.
