This event has ended.

Landscape painter Yoshitaka Nanjo (b. 1977 in Kagawa Prefecture) does not simply depict the characteristics of places, he considers their histories and other multilayered aspects. He uses soil from the locations he visits in his works in an attempt to give these places a sense of “portability” and his paintings a grounded sense of place. Nanjo’s accolades include being chosen for the 2017 VOCA Exhibition, and he continues to hold exhibitions in a variety of places.
Nanjo is diversifying his artistic practice beyond painting. Since his 2016 exhibition at Art Front Gallery, he has been creating dramatic installations made with soil and sand as main materials with elements of sound and light added to give the work a feeling of nostalgia.
For his current show at Art Front Gallery coinciding with Setouchi Triennale, Nanjo rediscovers his birthplace with an installation strongly evoking the feeling of being in Setouchi with its simultaneous sense of closeness and freedom. Glimpse this new aspect of Nanjo’s creativity in his latest work in Daikanayama.
