Ernest Henry Wilson
The Wilson stump on Yakushima bears the name of English botanist Ernest Henry Wilson, a plant collector known for his exploration of Asia. Wilson visited Japan from 1914 to 1919 and introduced the sakura cherry and the rhododendron to the West and contributed to the development of botany in Japan. This exhibition introduces Wilson’s photographs of Japan from 100 years ago.
