Julia Chiang
Chiang’s new works in this exhibition center on abstract paintings and ceramic works comprising a myriad of colorful petal-shaped forms. They seem to depict the patterns of living creatures, or are reminiscent of maps and diagrams that illustrate flows of energy. At the same time, they could be regarded as abstract images that serve as metaphorical renditions of regions of outer space, life inside the womb, and female embodiment. While there appears to be a planned sense of regularity in the works, what they indeed convey is a certain balance conceived according to the laws of nature rather than through human hands.
