Mitsuaki Iwago (b. 1950) has been interested in documenting animals and nature since his twenties when he took a trip to the Galapagos with his father, a fellow animal photographer. He received the Ihei Kimura Award in 1979 for “Umi kara no Tegami” (Letters from the Sea) and his work has twice appeared on the cover of National Geographic. While interested in wild animals, Iwago also turns his lens toward the domestic and has made a name for himself as a photographer cats. His images of felines around the world have been featured as two Japanese TV specials. This exhibition of 200 images of cats all across Japan come mainly from the series “Shima no Neko” (Island Cats) and “Yakimono no Sato Neko” (Pottery Village Cats).
