Artists

Tokuro Sakamoto
Tokuro Sakamoto studied Nihonga painting at Tokyo University of the Arts, but would go on to forge his own style by applying mineral pigment paints to hemp paper and painting traditional Japanese motifs in acrylics. From an early stage in his career, Sakamoto has composed his works simply with crucial elements abstracted from the repeating rhythms and beauty found natural and artificial scenes of everyday life. These works offer glimpses of new developments in Sakamoto’s practice, including diagonal cuts across horizontal compositions that evoke a simultaneous sense of unease and mystery.
