Kota Kishi
Kota Kishi has been photographing the derelict neighborhoods of Sanya in Tokyo, Kotobuki-cho in Yokohama, and Kamagasaki in Osaka since 2005. He has printed these series (“Mono, Shimiru,” The Books With Smells,” “Barracks,” etc.) with a variety of methods on papers with diverse textures. The works on display here focus on people living in Kamagasaki and Sanya and things thrown away on their roadsides. He photographs people displaying a cold detachment as they walk about town and dispassionately captured items such as flowers, socks, or work gloves. These images evoke Kishi’s focus on the indifference that exists on other side of ideas and feelings. Don’t miss this rare type of documentary.
