Takahiro Hayakawa “Digital Animism”

Artists

Takahiro Hayakawa
Takahiro Hayakawa has studied the images and concepts of mythology and religion from around the world and has incorporated them into his artwork. Fascinated by cave paintings of animals drawn with eight legs the artist learned that the word “animate” not only means to make an animation or give a character the appearance of movement but also means to bring something to life. Hayakawa’s work has been inspired by the relationship between the words, animation, animism, and anima. Numerous layers of elements is another characteristic of his work. Each element is small and simple but contributes different movements and shapes to the work. The layers are replicated, multiplied, and entangled in a complex manner. The act itself is analog and simple but is made complicated and intricate through Hayakawa’s use of computer technology.
