Bernard Buffet Exhibition
Galerie Tamenaga
Ends in 4 days
Bernard Buffet won the prestigious Prix de la critique at age 19 in 1948 for his representational paintings featuring restrained colors, austere compositions, and bold black brushstrokes. In the 1960s, as abstraction swept the art world, Galerie Tamenaga founder Kiyotsugu Tamenaga became concerned about representational painting dying out and took an interest in Buffet’s work, introducing it to Japan. This exhibition marking the 50th anniversary of Buffet’s first solo show in Japan looks back on the history of the gallery and this artist.
