Kasetsu “Flowing”

Harukaito by island

poster for Kasetsu “Flowing”

This event has ended.

This is the first time for the gallery Harukaito by island to show a large work from after the 2011 earthquake. In addition to “Day,” which Kasetsu wrote almost every day during the period of 2017-2019, the exhibition will include “Water” (2019-2020), “Heart” (2018), “Bird” (2016), and “Wind” (2013).

Artist statement:
The earthquake gave us a chance to think seriously about “stopping,” but 10 years later, the new coronavirus is spreading around the world, and we are forced to stop. Maybe it’s time to think about “stopping,” says Kasetsu. In this context, this is a work about “stopping” even though the timing is different. This is the only time, in the ever-changing time, that we can see a mixture of pre-Corona and post-Corona works. Kasetsu’s handwriting is born of a deep understanding of the characters and “caring” for them to the point where they become clear to her. Each day is different, and each day has its own presence.
