Robert Doisneau (1912–1994) was one of the most important photographers of the 20th century. His famed works include “Kiss by the Hotel de Ville,” a celebrated shot of lovers kissing on the streets of Paris. Doisneau studied lithography before pursuing photography in earnest from around the age of 18. His work appeared in magazines such as Vogue and Life and captured the people and activities of Paris with skillful powers of observation. His photographs evoke a sense of the human rather than the mechanical. This exhibition split into themes of “lovers,” “streets,” “children,” “bars,” and “artists” features 75 original works.
