Since 2018, the ‘I’m Here Project’ started by artist Atsushi Watanabe has aimed to draw attention to the plight of “hikikomori” (persons withdrawn from society) through collections and exhibitions of photos of rooms taken by the hikikomori themselves.
For this exhibition, Atsushi Watanabe has conversations with 6 hikikomori individuals and created a concrete monument reflecting and expressing their condition and experiences.
