A case can be observed brimming with fabric. Looking upon this work, seemingly like a mountain of discarded laundry, intricate constructions of pylons and towers can be discerned. The seemingly random creases and wrinkles of the fabric become actual contours of a mountainous landscape. Upon further observation of these constructions one may come to see they are formed from numerous colours and thicknesses of thread. And the pile of cloth which at first glance seemed a white mass, gradually reveals itself to be a formation of many different shades of white, with a complex range of surface patterns and quality, recalling the diversity of a mountain plantation. For one year you are welcome to enjoy this microcosm, placed within a glass case like a scientific specimen.

Yumeji Takehisa was a well-known “Taisho Romantic” painter and poet. In 1914, a shop focusing on paper crafts, stationery and daily goods designed by Takehisa called Minato-ya opened in Nihombashi, becoming an influential tastemaker in the field of design. This exhibition looks back on the early days of Takehisa’s career as a painter, introducing viewers to the social customs and culture of the Taisho era (1912-1926).

We are glad to present Yoshiaki Kuribara's Fantastic Eccentric Show with Dokuro All Stars, the solo exhibition of the energetic artist Yoshiaki Kuribara to be held in the sports hall of 3331 Arts Chiyoda. Taking "theme Park" as his keyword, Kuribara will present numerous large scale works (both past work and new work) to form a highly original space within the sports hall. With support from the "Dokuro All Stars", the exhibition space will be activated through performances and film screenings. Proposing a new concept of exhibition making, utilizing a space of 622 sqm, with a height of 6.7m, it is sure to be a giant show!

Who are Dokuro All Stars?
Dokuro All Stars is a term used to refer to members of the organization "Dokuro Kogyo" of which Kuribara is also a member. Dokuro Kogyo is a new platform that aims to support artists by conveying the importance of freedom. Forming a new kind of system, its members aim to concretely realize the function of art within society by testing various different enterprises, led by Satoshi Okada, the art collector and director of MAGIC ROOM???

Taking place at the same time!
On the first floor, "3331 Gallery" will be simultaneously presenting "Yoshiaki Kuribara's Drawing Exhibition", providing the opportunity to view the drawings which Kuribara creates on a daily basis.

Katsuhiro Otomo made his debut over 39 years ago, an event that has since gone down in Japanese manga history as a boundary marker between "pre-Otomo" and "post-Otomo". He has had an enormous impact on international creators all over the world in the fields of comics, film, music and more. Some 20 years after it was first serialized, "Akira" is now being turned into a live-action film that is the talk of the town in Hollywood.

All the works on display at this exhibition are original illustrations hand-drawn by Otomo himself, including representative pieces from Domu, Kibun wa mo Senso, and Sayonara Nippon that testify to the prodigious imagination of this leading manga artist.

All tickets will be sold as Lawson tickets. Tickets for April go on sale March 3rd, while those for May go on sale April 14th. See website for more details.

This exhibition is the first ever large-scale Japan retrospective of the Inca Empire, the last of the Andes civilizations and the largest one in South America, which flourished from the early 15th century up until the early 16th century. How did the Incas build monumental architectural structures without the use of a wheel or iron tools? What sort of leader was the "Sun King"? This exhibition hopes to provide answers to some of these questions. Of particular interest is a 530-inch theater that will allow visitors to have a virtual, 3D experience of the Macchu Picchu ruins.

In 2012, which marks the 40th anniversary of the normalization of relations between Japan and China, the Tokyo National Museum is holding an exhibition of masterpieces from the Palace Museum, Beijing.

The site of the Palace Museum, Beijing, was formerly the residence of 24 Chinese emperors from the Ming-dynasty Emperor Yongle to the Qing-dynasty Emperor Puyi. In addition to its own glorious architecture, it houses a collection of more than 1.8 million artifacts.

This magnificent exhibition consists of a selection of 200 masterpieces from that collection and is split into two sections. The first section features the simultaneous display of 41 Song- and Yuan-dynasty calligraphic works and paintings not previously shown outside the palace (some works for a limited period), as well as masterpieces of court and literati paintings, must-see works by three of the best calligraphers of the Song period, and masterworks of calligraphy by Yuan-period literati. Boasting a tremendous array of fabulous bronzes, jades and other artifacts, this lineup can be described as a defining exhibition of the Palace Museum. The second section centers around four portraits of Emperor Qianlong, whose reign marked the Qing dynasty’s golden period. This section seeks to understand the abundance of world views held in the Qing dynasty. There is also an area that attempts to recreate, using existing artworks, a portrait of Emperor Qianlong in which he is depicted surrounded by various masterpieces.
