Since the 1990s, local cultures that burrow deep into a narrow, specialized field while remaining attuned to global viewpoints have enjoyed a boom in popularity. The graphics of Jerry Ukai have won him many fans by pursuing this sort of aesthetic. Ukai's work is informed by a dry brand of American pop culture that takes inspiration not only from fashion and design, but also skate culture and martial arts.

This exhibition focuses on aspects of Ukai's work that are often obscured in the context of his collaborative work with other designers and art units, featuring drawings, design collages and sculptures, including a new series inspired by the classic movie starring Macaulay Culkin, Home Alone.

In August 2009 the family of Mr. Fukuda generously donated the entire body of posters found in his studio to the DNP Graphic Design Archives. This exhibition at ggg, a special show in his memory and an event to commemorate the archiving of his posters, will introduce 108 works gleaned from the near 1,200 posters Mr. Fukuda created during his lifetime.
It is said that whenever Mr. Fukuda would come up with what he thought was a brilliant idea, he would leap from his chair and shout, "That's it!" The use of the words "Visual Jumping" in the exhibition title comes from his visual sequences indicative of this special feature of his vibrant creative activities.
The goal in mounting this exhibition is to shed light on how internationally outstanding and persuasive his posters, created in a flash of brilliance, are as a language shared by people worldwide. The appearance of "Victory 1945," a masterpiece that will remain within the history of design, was revolutionary in the way it transfixed people not only in the design field but people in all fields. This poster, imbued with sophisticated humor and Mr. Fukuda's inimitable wit backed by a cynic's way of thinking, today continues to enthrall people around the world. But it will be only one of numerous outstanding works, many less familiar, on exhibit. Visitors will also be introduced to messages from overseas as well as rare interviews of Mr. Fukuda taken at his studio and at various art museums, all brought together in order to introduce his creative setting and bring his achievements into sharp relief.

The Embassy of Canada is pleased to present Visual Highlights of the Past 10 Years – Embassy of Canada.

The Embassy of Canada hosts a variety of concerts, exhibitions, symposia and other events featuring renowned musicians, artists, scholars, and other important people who are involved in the promotion of Canada-Japan relations. To raise awareness of these events in Japan, the Embassy custom designs and produces posters to promote these events in the Embassy facilities, which are also the event venues.

A look back at the past decade through posters, Visual Highlights of the Past 10 Years – Embassy of Canada will be one of the final events of the Canada-Japan 80th anniversary year. The exhibition features thirty posters including those from the John Howe exhibition (Lord of the Brush), the inauguration of the Oscar Peterson Theatre, the Diana Krall showcase concert, Canadian Night with Sadao Watanabe as well as posters created for the Embassy's Halloween party, innovation symposium, and more. Each work boasts a creative design emphasizing the unique character of the event. Together, these posters present a visually appealing timeline of great moments in the history of Canada-Japan relations.

Presentations by participating artists will be given in front of a general audience, and the jury members will select the winner. The winner of the Grand Prize will be given the right to hold a solo show and produce a pamphlet one year after the award is made.

Compared to the Hitotsubo exhibition and its decision process based solely on a portfolio , "1_Wall" incorporates an additional review process that adds an extra layer of seriousness to the proceedings.
