Barry McGee’s graffiti opposite the Watari-um
The San Francisco-based graffiti artist Barry McGee is having a solo exhibition at the Watari Museum of Contemporary Art in Harajuku. Across the road, he has revamped the streetscape, covering an empty shop with his trademark icons and graphics.
Ashley Rawlings. Ashley is an editor, writer and translator, and was based in Tokyo from 2005 to 2008, where he conducted research into the history of Japanese postwar art at Sophia University. Wow, that’s some pretty amazing artwork. I recently found out about Mr. McGee’s work and I’ve been looking for more info and pictures of his work. Anyway, I found this interview with Barry Mcgee that is pretty interesting.
