Thank you, LV
As we reported last week on TABlog, the world is gearing up for another collaboration between Takashi Murakami and Louis Vuitton. Jean Snow’s blog and honeyee.com offer some more glimpses of what it will look like.

However, not everyone is keen on Messrs Vuitton and Murakami. As seen on Art Review, an LA butter merchant purchased some LV prints made by the Japanese artist but was shocked to learn that they were made from repurposed handbag fabrics. Having believed the prints were collectable prints the customer is now suing the makers for fraud.

Art Fair TokyoOtsukaresama
Art Fair Tokyo have announced that visitors to the event this year reached forty-five thousand, the largest number since the Fair started.

Censorship
As covered by the Japan Times, a museum run by Okinawa prefecture has banned an art work featuring the Emperor Hirohito’s image that suggests the previous monarch’s war responsibility. Nobuyuki Oura’s collages are part of the “Into the Atomic Sunshine” exhibition, which toured to Tokyo last year and was reviewed by TABlog.

New Venues, New Events
New space Vacant in Harajuku’s event “Wrong Dance, Right Steps” will start May 1. Alongside the exhibition will be a weeklong series of other events, including music and performances. See Vacant’s website for details.

Over Golden Week Omotesando will be turned into a flea market. From May 2 to 6 visitors will be able to buy art works by young Japanese artists, accessories and zakka. Check out the event’s website for more.

The next generation of Japanese artists may well be on show at Art Award Tokyo, which begins next week. You can see the list of winners on the organization’s website if you can’t wait.

Directed and written by Makoto Ueda, “Boss in the Sky” is a Europe-Kikaku theatre piece touring Japan from next month. Hitting Tokyo in June, it promises to be a delirious tale of magic and battles. For dates and information go to the Europe-Kikaku site (Japanese only). Tickets have been on sale since the beginning of the month and are already selling fast.

International News

American Robert Adams has won the Hasselblad Foundation Award. See further details on their homepage.

Seen on the web
For those of you who haven’t seen this, check out Dave Lee’s short film about a trip to Japan (and Hong Kong). It may be short but it certainly packs a lot in.
