Books etc

The 2010 JAGDA (Japan Graphic Designers Association Inc.) calendar will go on sale from October 26. Featuring the work of 365 designers (one for each day), the calendar is priced 3650 yen (however, the reservation price on the website is less).

Calm and Punk Gallery have published an original book by ten_do_ten. The pixel art book was released at the beginning of September and is designed only in red, black and white. Check out how it looks on the designer’s site.

Events

Today (Saturday September 19) sees another Open Studio from Tokyo Wonder Site Aoyama and its artists in residence programme. This month’s event features Toshi Ichiyanagi talking about experimental sound art from 15:15 (Japanese-English interpretation provided).

Sound Gardening returns on September 25. I previously reported here on TABlog about this extraordinarily peaceful headphone concert. With the setting of Kiyosumi Gardens, this computer music event is really very special. This time the performers include Carl Stone and Living Astro. See the official website for details. Advance reservation and payment is required.

Award-winning design

Take a look at the winners of the id design award 2009. The theme of this year’s awards was the ever-in-the-news ‘environment’ and top prize was actually not announced. However, you can take a look at the other winners on the website. Judges include Taku Sato and Soichi Ueda (Think the Earth Project).

New gallery

Yuka Contemporary opened its doors yesterday (Friday 18). Check out its TAB page for how to get there. Expect coverage of the new space and its debut exhibition on TABlog soon. Also opening soon is Ohshima Fine Art in the Kagurazaka building’s former Takahashi Collection space.

International pressure

Many of you will have been following the controversy that has engulfed the documentary about the Taiji dolphin hunt. The Tokyo International Film Festival this week announced the line-up and with it the u-turn that it would be screening The Cover after all, reports The Japan Times.
