As widely reported, including on Jean Snow’s blog, the next director of the Venice Architecture Biennale will be SANAA’s Kazuo Seijima.
Nakameguro hotel and gallery Claska is opening a new space from November 26, a store in Shibuya Parco B1F. More details can be found on the space’s blog (in Japanese).
Calling all photographers!
Recently on TABlog we interviewed new Chinese art gallery Zen Foto’s eloquent owner, Mark Pearson. As mentioned in the interview, Mark has set up an informal get-together for (ostensibly foreign) photographers to meet at the gallery, show and discuss their work. The inaugural meeting is happening November 15 (Sunday) from 19:00 at the gallery.
Art Competition
Tokyo Wonder Site has launched its annual art competition, “Wonder Seeds”. Applicants for the 2010 competition can start sending in work from early December until January 21. The theme of entered pieces is open but there are other conditions: you must be below thirty-five and living in Japan; the work must be something that can be sold (the concept of Wonder Seeds is “BUY=SUPPORT”, encouraging young artists to make work that can be sold and encouraging art-lovers to buy work they like); and it must be something that can be displayed on a wall. Note that there are fees for entry, however, and your work will be evaluated by judges including Tokyo Governor Shintaro Ishihara.
