Ai Weiwei, 'Cube Light' (2008)Opening on November 19, the Misa Shin Gallery aims “to introduce viewers to work transcending generations, disciplines and political perspectives, by the most illustrious local and international artists practicing today.”

The fixed line-up already includes Back Seung Woo, Tomatsu Shomei, Ken Lum, Torimitsu Momoyo, Kimsooja, Iba Yasuko, and Isozaki Arata.

However, for the inaugural show Shin has chosen the man of the hour, Chinese artist Ai Weiwei, whose has been causing a political ruckus in Shanghai of late and spreading sunflower seeds over the floor of the Tate Modern.

The first solo show at a commercial gallery in Japan for the artist, “Cube Light” will feature a large installation (pictured) and runs until January 2011.

The gallery itself is contained in a house that was previously an ironworks factory and the space apparently retainers “reminders of the building’s former life”.
