Roonee 247 Photography
Gallery in The Shinjuku area
Since starting up my first photography gallery with friends in 1991, I have always worked in this field. However, through this job I have slowly learned that exhibiting photographs is not such a major medium in the art world. This has led me to spend much time spreading the word on how interesting photography really is. My endeavors may seem very limited, but after 10 years I am beginning to see some progress. Right now, I am striving to create an environment where photographers can work with pride, and am also trying to shine light on those struggling photographers whose work are not properly appreciated. While my gallery is small, I want it to be a space where I can interact with visitors and artists honestly. That is why I established Roonee. It’s not that I wanted a space purely for self-satisfaction. Roonee is old slang for “Cool!”. Through gathering similarly ambitious photographers in my gallery, I wish to further vitalize the world of photography. Hopefully it will become a space where both the colourful photographs on the wall, and visitors alike will feel the “roonee!” vibes.
