Seiji Togo Memorial Sompo Japan Nipponkoa Museum of Art has been exhibiting Japanese and foreign artworks for over a quarter of a century since opening its doors in July 1976. As part of its contribution to cultural development, The Yasuda Fire & Marine Insurance Co., Ltd., one of the forerunning companies of the present Sompo Japan Nipponkoa Insurance Inc., sought to provide a venue for art appreciation, and sympathizing with this aim Seiji Togo, who was closely associated with the company, came to donate his personal collection of works. These have been added to over the years through various donations and acquisitions including work of the early impressionists, the American folk art of Grandma Moses and major nihonga pieces, now making up a 630 strong collection which may be viewed through a regularly changing selection of 10 works showing alongside the museum’s curated exhibitions.
