Chiba City Museum of Art
Museum in The Kanto: others area
Chiba City Museum of Art was designed and built as part of Chiba City’s Chuo Ward Office. The heart of the building is Sayado Hall, based on the preserved and restored former Kawasaki Bank building built in 1992 and refurbished as a space to accomodate cultural activities. The museum, designed to enclose and preserve the few remaining pre-war buildings was completed in 1994 and served as a collaboration of old and new buildings providing a place for unique cultural activities. In addition, the building was selected for the “100 Public Construction Selection” in commemoration of the 50 anniversary of the Ministry of Construction. The urban museum not only has exhibition rooms on the 7th and 8th floors but also a library, museum shop, restaurants, and even rental exhibition space.
