Museum in The Ueno, Yanaka area

poster for Asakura Choso Museum

Asakura Choso Museum was originally built by the sculptor Fumio Asakura (1883~1964) as his home atelier. After eight renovations and expansions, it was rebuilt anew from 1928-1935 to its present form. The building consists of two sections: the atelier section, built in the western style out of ferroconcrete, and the living section, built in the Japanese style with a bamboo motif. The two contrasting elements are combined here in a natural harmony.
