The Museum of Modern Art, Ibaraki, located on the green bank of Lake Senba in Mito City, opened in October, 1988. Surrounded by the great environment of Ibaraki, the museum serves as a cultural center.
Architect Junzo Yoshimura designed the museum building, which has a green rooftop and brown granite facade.
Ever since its opening, the museum has introduced works by artists who are relevant to Ibaraki such as Taikan Yokoyama, Usen Ogawa, Tsune nakamura, as well as modern art from Europe.
