Le Corbusier
Modern architecture has sought the harmony between form and structure. It denied historicism, which is the categorization of architectural styles into periods, and the method of choosing a particular style from which a facade would be created.
At the turning point of the century, in architecture, instead of structure acting as a stagehand to the surface, a new relationship in which the rationality of the structure shaped the facade, became increasingly demanded.
This exhibition focuses on surface expression, introducing the works of Le Corbusier, one of the leaders of the modern architectural movement, ranging from his earlier to his late works. It retraces the evolution of his ideas and thoughts towards architecture throughout his career by looking at his expression of the surface, which is quite often generalized and conceived merely as bare concrete walls.
